I would say this list pretty much reflects my preference in IPAs, with Odell and Ska being #1 and 2, and Titan being last. You say something was off with your Titan batch, but I feel that way nearly every time I have a Titan these days. That beer has fallen off. Surprised about Avery though.

They don't go into much detail except that the devil is in the details. From their FB page: "There were a few details that couldn't come together for this date and we want the grand opening to be first-rate for our fans who deserve the best. We can't wait to celebrate the opening with you soon!"

Could be any number of things; opening a new business is fraught with hurdles to overcome.

That would be a much better way to do it, get rid of a lot of the crap beer that ends up at GABF. I tried quite a few breweries that had no lines and was dissapointed almost every time.

They didn't register in time/missed the narrow window, which happened to lots of breweries this year and will only get worse until the BA starts regional qualifiers and makes the GABF a "winners only" event.

Would need to do it for breweries that were actually at GABF. One of Colorado's best Crooked Stave didn't even bother attending GABF.

From a brewery (from AHA stats) to medal ratio it goes - 1st CO (.2228 medals per brewery) , 2nd TX (.1666 per), 3rd CA (.1446 per) and 4th OR (.1215 per)

I've been preaching this on HeidiTown.com for a number of years now. As Oktoberfests grow in popularity here in Colorado I've seen two things happen. First, there are tons of Mocktoberfests featuring non traditional music (it's basically an excuse for a party and while there's nothing wrong with that, it's NOT an Oktoberfest). Second, several Oktoberfests that used to be tradition have turned into a craft beer event. Now don't get me wrong, I love a good craft beer event, but quite frankly I can go to one of those on any weekend of the year.

In September and Oktober I crave a real Oktoberfest and that's why I co-founded Berthoud Oktoberfest four years ago. It's traditional and we strive to keep it that way. While we do not serve beer from Germany, several local microbreweries make us a traditional Oktoberfest beer to serve at the event.

We have German music, food, dancing and even German storytelling for the kids. We also feature interactive soccer demonstrations for kids - nothing is more German than fubol, especially this year.

Great article Chris! I write for ColoradoCraftBrews.com, and feel the same way about Craft vs. Crafty. I think there's definitely something to be said for a beer brewed in Colorado with Colorado ingredients, and only sold in Colorado. I wrote a quick article on IPL also: http://www.coloradocraftbre...
